Dear Parents and Carers
A short weekly message to round up the week – I trust you are all safe and well given the increasing infection rates in the UK at this time
1) September 2021
I have spoken with pupils in assembly this week to remind them that come September, we will be returning to normal uniform arrangements for all pupils on every day. The other key topics I have covered include:
– The need for prompt starts to lessons after breaks and lunches
– A reminder that false nails are not permitted and must be removed
– Mobile phone usage – these must not be seen during the school day and will be confiscated, with parents needing to come and pick them up after the 3rd time of being confiscated
– A reminder about positive, polite behaviour around the site – I appreciate that everyone is tired, but we still have a week to go
I am confident that after a good summer break that pupils will be ready to pick up again in the new year after what has been undoubtedly a tough 15 months or so. Thank you for your support with the above items – I will write in detail next week.
2) Events this week
Thank you to all of the pupils, staff and parents who have participated in events this week. We have had Geography field visits for Year 10, visits to Salisbury Cathedral for Year 7 as well as the performance(s) of My Sister Sadie, our Dance Club and a Year 7 football game – it is great to see these events that contribute to pupils’ personal development increasingly returning after the pandemic.
The best place to catch up with the events that go in and out of school is our Facebook social media feed. In the new year, we will be introducing a new website at the end of the autumn term and with it an updated News section, so until then please do like us on Facebook.
3) Covid 19 – impact for the last week and September testing
Staff and pupil absence has been affected this week. We have, though, done really well overall and mercifully have not had a large number of cases or on site transmission.
I would respectfully ask everyone to continue to play their part in stopping the spread of the virus, remembering to follow Hands Face Space and testing twice a week. Avoiding large crowds, particularly indoors is important at this time.
I do need to make everyone aware that disruption is a real possibility to everyday learning at the moment due to the amount of virus that is in the community and am grateful for parents having mobile phones switched on and emails checked regularly. This way we can communicate quickly when we need to.
Looking ahead, asymptomatic mass testing will resume again in September and pupils will need to be tested twice as we return to school. Again, please expect a letter next week. We don’t need to collect consent again but we will be checking our records to ensure we have a response from everyone and that any new starters have responded.
Year 7 pupils joining us will need to give consent for the first time and will be shown how to test so that they can then proceed with this as they start secondary school.
4) Next week …
… Is looking to be another busy one with Year 10 engaged in Work Experience and Careers work in a really great programme that Mr Jennings has put together. We will also have Rewards Assemblies and Principal’s Celebration with those pupils who have shown excellent attitude and achievement
I hope you have a restful weekend.
God bless you all
