Dear Parents and Carers
Please take a few moments to read my weekly update. I am sorry that this is a little later than normal this week.
Because of the number of items that are covered below, I have tried to summarise the key points in short statements under each heading
1) Covid 19
I wrote again in detail on Friday about this. I have been reassured by Public Health who have confirmed that the number of cases we are seeing is not unusual in secondary schools at this time. That is not to say, however, that we can stop being vigilant or taking actions. Therefore, please be aware:
– Pupils with any symptoms MUST NOT come to school – they must be PCR tested
– We may need to step up additional measures (e.g. face coverings / staggered breaks) at short notice but I will write formally if this is the case
– Close contacts of cases should book PCR tests
From now on, to support Test & Trace we will write to possible pupil contacts advising them to get PCR tests. They will not have to self isolate whilst they are doing this, unless they show symptoms. Hopefully, this will help us identify more cases and bring numbers down quickly
I was very pleased to have so many nominations for Pupil of the Week this week. Please do encourage your child to focus their best efforts on their schoolwork. Later this year, we will be running our normal assemblies with certificates and vouchers. We have plans for a WOEC Reward visit in the Spring Term and will also listen to the School Council in our upcoming meeting for more ideas on trips and visits
3) Satchel One
I am very pleased to announce that we will be introducing Satchel One from next week – this used to be called Show My Homework. It is an online system for home learning setting so that pupils, parents and carers can track and manage home learning more effectively.
More details in a letter from Mr Oxborrow next week.
4) Break and Lunch
Please remind all pupils that they can queue either side at lunch – either the hall or the canteen. This will help manage queues more effectively.
5) Information Evenings
I am sorry that we cannot have these on site at this time – that would not be wise with the level of virus in the community at the moment, but I am looking forward to releasing Information Videos beginning next week. A link will be sent with an email address for further questions.
6) Uniform update
I will write fully and formally next week but please be aware that we have taken on an additional uniform supplier. I am grateful to the Dorset SchoolWear shop for confirming all items are now fully stocked and for their continued support. By introducing another supplier we hope to provide better geographical choice and flexibility as well as ensuring stock is always available when issues out of our control do occur
Whilst we do use Social Media for promoting events and providing these updates, please do be aware that our social media feed is not monitored 24/7 – we do not have the capacity to do this. Please also be aware that the school is not part of any informal groups and communication therein is not likely to be received by us. Therefore, if you need to raise an issue about anything at all that you need support with, please contact the office directly and I will make sure that the appropriate colleague responds. Your support in this regard is much appreciated
I hope you and your family have enjoyed a good weekend so far and that the week ahead is a good for all of us
With every blessing
John Cornish, Principal
