Dear Parents and Carers
What a busy week! I’m really pleased that lockdown is over and our young people will be able to enjoy a greater degree of freedom. That said, it is still important to remember that virus prevalence remains high so caution is still needed.
There a couple of matters that I would like to draw your attention to:
I am sorry that the traffic has been challenging today. We have two weeks that we need to get to through and I would be very grateful for everyone avoiding driving to school if at all possible. I am working with Dorset Council to see what can be done early next week. In the meantime, please drive slowly near the school and encourage your children to take care as pedestrians.
2. Site Improvements
I am very pleased that initial fencing work has taken place in preparation for the site improvements on each of our key playground spaces.
Students cannot play ball games until Christmas but will be able to enjoy doing this when we return!
3. Year 11 GCSE Exams
I will write formally about this next week but there has been an announcement today regarding the Year 11 exams.
There are more details to follow but the key message is that exams will be graded to ensure fairness to students in recognition of the challenges students have faced due to the lockdowns. The exams will be adapted to ensure students are supported also which means they will be told which topics to prepare for in some exams.
For more information, please read the initial Department for Education announcement here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-support-the-summer-2021-exams/guidance-to-support-the-summer-2021-exams
As soon as more details are released from exam boards, we will let you know.
4. Year 9 Parent Consultation Evening
Please remember to book appointments for this using School Cloud! Contact us at the office if you need more information.
5. Mental Health
I am concerned about the impact that Covid 19 has had on young people’s mental health and am aware that we have students who are struggling. We are going to devote some time in tutor time to enable our Wellbeing Team give support and guidance to all students in order to help them cope. There are lots of avenues of support in school.
I would also encourage you to take a moment to link to our website here https://allsaints.dorset.sch.uk/working-from-home/#tab-1-6 if you need support.
Also, the Dorset Health Care NHS site has a useful link https://www.dorsethealthcare.nhs.uk/access-mental-health
Finally, please remember school is closed tomorrow. I hope that you and your family enjoy a good weekend.
