Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to my weekly update messages
1) Covid 19
Thank you for everyone who has been in contact with us this week to keep us up to date with test results and self isolation details related to coronavirus. It is very important that the following messages are understood:
– Please do not send your child into school if they are unwell. Book a test.
– Symptoms that we are seeing are including cold like symptoms including runny noses, so I would advise you to be aware of this
– Pupils must wash their hands regularly
– Face coverings must be worn in communal areas (e.g. dinner queues, corridors etc…)
– Assemblies are on hold until further notice
I realise that it is a concerning time, but we do need to work together in a calm and respectful fashion. I have had a number of instances this week where parents have, understandably been concerned, but have expressed this in a way that is not polite or helpful to the situation. Please understand that we are all working as hard as we can to respond to every call or message and your patience is appreciated. I cannot have staff (including myself) sworn at or shouted at. Our values of kindness and responsibility are important for all of us to share at this time.
So that you are all aware, I speak daily with Public Health and they are not concerned about our case numbers at the moment. They are also very clear with me that our measures at this point in time are proportionate and reasonable. If this changes, I will let you know, but we must all remember that the measures that have been in place previously were highly disruptive to education and we need to watch and wait at the moment.
2) Information Evenings
I have sent details of these to Year 11, 7 & 8 parents and hope that you have found them useful. Please do contact Mr Oxborrow if you need any follow up questions answered but we are looking forward to rolling out Satchel One (Show My Homework) with all pupils as shared in the slides.
The remaining evenings are coming up this week and will be released as soon as we have them recorded.
We will invite parents and carers to similar evenings on site later this year Covid 19 permitting and realise that it has not been ideal to be able to have as much on site contact as we would want.
3) Trips and Visits
Despite some disruption due to self isolation, I have been pleased to see trips and visits going out from school. This week we had a Geography Field Work trip, a Dance group visit to Bournemouth and the Royal Navy on site showing pupils how to prepare an excellent fish dish.
Coming up, we have advertised our Iceland Visit for a little way into the future but have had a great uptake already.
I have confirmed with Miss Cousens and Mr May provisional plans for a ski trip in 2023 so please do keep an eye out for upcoming details.
Closer to home, we sent out letters to Y7 and Y8 parents regarding the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe show this week. The trip was open to 30 pupils and was filled within hours. We are very conscious that there have been few opportunities to take part in school trips over the past 18 months. We are in the process of putting together a trip for each year group that all pupils in the year group will be able to be a part of if they wish. This will take place during T2 on the run up to Christmas. Letters will come out shortly.
Looking ahead this week, we have flu vaccinations on site on Thursday and Friday as well as lesson visits in class from senior colleagues -pupils, please make them welcome and share what has been going well this year and how we can continue to improve
I trust you enjoy the weekend
