Before Half Term, Year 10 were treated to a sample meal cooked by RN Chef Jason Goldsworthy. The dish consisted of roasted duck breast on a bed of sweet potato puree, blackberry sauce and crispy duck balls, served with fondant butternut squash and garnished with mushrooms and glazed purple carrots.
During the demonstration, RN steward Rachel Fletcher talked to the pupils about the vast choice of careers and opportunities the Royal Navy offer. She explained aspects of deployments the Navy participate in throughout the world which many of the children were unaware of until that day.
Both Jason and Rachel enthusiastically gave their personal journey into their chosen career path within the service and presented details on pay and travel opportunities they aspire to alongside other options available to those who join.
Jason finished the presentation by giving a masterclass on presentation and a tasting session where some pupils enjoyed eating duck for the first time.
Everyone who attended the event got a lot from it and the children instigated a round of applause and thanked them, asking if they could come back and see us again next year.
